Holy Family Church, Kannur

Holy Family Church, located in South Bazar, Kannur, Kerala, is a vibrant parish community belonging to the Syrian Catholic tradition within the Thalassery Archdiocese. Established on 7 January 1990, the parish has steadily grown into a strong spiritual family that upholds the values of faith, unity, and service under the patronage of the Holy Family — the parish’s heavenly mediators.
From its humble beginnings, Holy Family Church has developed into a thriving center of worship and community life. The parish now consists of 280 families, forming a closely-knit spiritual community guided by the teachings of the Catholic Church and the rich traditions of the Syro-Malabar rite. To ensure efficient spiritual and social coordination, the parish is divided into 16 wards, each represented in the overall functioning and development of the parish.
The church operates under the Thaliparamba Forane, which provides administrative and pastoral support. The current Vicar, Rev. Fr. Mathew Narikuzhy, leads the parish with deep dedication and pastoral care, fostering spiritual growth among parishioners through active participation in liturgy, catechism, and various parish ministries. His leadership is marked by a focus on faith formation, youth involvement, and charitable outreach.
The Parish Council, composed of 50 members, plays a crucial role in planning and executing parish activities. The council represents the various wards and parish organizations, ensuring collective decision-making and active participation from all members. Together, the Vicar and the council work to strengthen community life, encourage social service, and promote unity among parishioners.
As part of the Archdiocese of Thalassery, Holy Family Church maintains a deep connection with the larger Catholic community, participating in diocesan programs, missions, and celebrations. The parish remains dedicated to nurturing Christian values within families, inspired by the model of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.
Holy Family Church hosts several spiritual and social organizations, including Mathruvedi (Mothers’ Forum), KCYM, Cherupushpa Mission League, St. Vincent de Paul Society, AKCC (All Kerala Catholic Congress), Credit Union, and other active groups that strengthen the parish’s mission of faith and service.
Over the years, Holy Family Church has not only been a place of worship but also a center of faith formation, education, and charity in the Kannur region. Through its vibrant liturgical life, active parish organizations, and community-oriented initiatives, the church continues to shine as a beacon of faith and hope, reflecting the love of Christ to all.
